Artist’s Bio...

Deborah Williams was born in Syracuse, New York. As a child she

always enjoyed making toys out of aluminum foil, and anything else

she could manipulate. Upon going to school she discovered her true

passion for sculpting when a high school teacher gave her permission

to create anything she wanted. Her request was, to work with clay.

She made a bust from that clay which earned her a scholarship for

Columbus College of Art and Design. After graduation she attended

for a year then due to financial hardships she had to withdraw.

She eventually got married had four children. During this time she

continued to dabble in art creating paintings. However she found

herself only a few years later a single mother of four. She decided she

needed to find a way to survive and support her children on more than

a fast food restaurant salary, while maintaining her dream to keep

producing her art. Her art at that time was an emotional outlet

containing all her joy and sadness. Not just from her life experiences,

but from the ever changing world events.

She returned to school to pursue her art career at New York State

University where she obtained a BA in Computer Science and Visual

Arts. She accepted contract positions and computer jobs to make ends

meet. In her spare time she painted portraits for a commission.

After her children grew up and had families of their own she found

herself once again with the freedom to decide what she most wanted

to do. Then on Christmas her daughter gave her a clay bowl she had

made. This small bowl then inspired Deborah to return to her first

love of sculpting.

Deborah's sculptures evoke strong emotions on a personal level with

feelings of loss, joy, and strength. Some sculptures are based on her

life experiences. At times the pieces almost create their own

atmosphere.

She currently works out of River Bottom Pottery & Galleria in

Harrisburg, PA., where her works are on display.

Qualifications

Attended Columbus Collage Of Art and Design, Columbus, Ohio. Graduated State University of New York at Oswego. BFA Visual Arts and Computer Science.
